VODAFONE NZ MUSIC AWARDS 2008 - FINALIST FOR BEST ELECTRONIC/DANCE ALBUM!!!
Think funk anthems blasting through dirty party scenes. Think slow jams for reclining. Recloose returns in late February 2008 with a new studio album: Perfect Timing.
For all the right reasons, Recloose is now considered one of New Zealand’s finest music producers and DJs, and a sassy sax player in his own right too. The Recloose Live Band and it’s infamous sound has reverberated through nightclubs from Auckland to Sydney, London to Tokyo.
Recloose cut his musical teeth in Detroit in the mid-90s alongside techno luminary Carl Craig. After releasing his debut album ‘Cardiology’ to worldwide acclaim, Recloose relocated to New Zealand to explore new musical and social horizons. Since then he has worked extensively with Aotearoa’s leading musicians. He released his second album locally through Loop, 'Hiatus On The Horizon', to a receptive audience by throwing Dust in our eyes. Then he released his live band album ‘Backwards and Sideways’ on his own imprint Fingertips.
Now, the new studio album ‘Perfect Timing’ again features long time musical companions Joe Dukie (Fat Freddy’s Drop), Tyna and Jonathan Crayford amongst new local and international talents. Given its irresistible booty shaking vibe, especially when played live, it is set to have leading impact on the local and international club scene.
The first single 'The Sanctuary' features the suave vocals of Tyna who has worked with P-Money and Scribe in the past. ‘The Sanctuary’ is already rotating on air from The Studio (Queenstown) to George FM (Auckland), and played by many DJs from Cian (Turnaround) to Takkas (Sandwiches).
PERFECT TIMING REVIEWS:
"Recloose continues to evolve his informed retro preferences. On Perfect Timing, there’s a distinct inclination towards Parliament-style funk wig-outs, enjoyably dirty Moog sounds, and an accomplished, transformative disco ebullience"
Metro
"A beautifully produced album that pays exquisite attention to detail, whether it's his consistently inventive beats, fun, spacey effects or clever use of vocal talent. Recloose will revive your taste for noodly, bottom-heavy party tunes."
NZ Herald
"A mix of funky soulful cuts (opener Catch A Leaf, Red Road, Daydream, Deeper Waters), percussion and keyboard-driven dancefloor anthems (So Cool) and smooth production. Recloose’s most accessible long-player thus far."
Waikato Times
"Clearly, attention to detail is high on the list of priorities: Warbled Moog lines provide harmonic backdrops to vocal phrases; other synthesizers, dark, bubbly and all shades in between, filter in and out; and horns, a staple of so much funk, become lo-fi, gritty stabs of sound. It’s Prince meets Parliament, with a dash of South Seas breeze."
Otago Daily Times
"Mmmmm: That first sip of complete satisfaction in a perfect coffee or much-needed beer; In Perfect Timing, that mmmm moment comes 19 seconds into the first track Catch a Leaf… There's plenty of moments to savour over the ten tracks…laden with the familiar Recloose style of playful brass-heavy dance and funk but a definite flavour of 80s electro-funk with quirky flourishes and busy basslines. Recloose heft mere mmmm than a cup of Moccona." Real Groove
Get ready for Recloose as he reclaims dance floors and hits you right in the funk nerve with ‘Perfect Timing’.
