Bio

Hailing from Te matau a Maui-Hawke’s Bay, Tipene Harmer has, over a decade-long career, quietly amassed over 13 million streams, winner of “Best Maori Urban Artist, 2019” and finalist for multiple Waiata Māori Music Awards. He has toured extensively across Aotearoa and collaborated with the likes of Troy Kingi, Scribe, Chē Fu, Maisey Rika, DAM Native and more. 

His single ‘West Side Hori’ saw Tipene announce himself to the music scene, with the track reaching the New Zealand charts and being named as a finalist for the APRA Silver Scroll Award alongside Six60 and Lorde

His 2021 album 'Heritage Trail' is a synergy of te ao Māori and hip-hop culture with the lead single ‘Tūrangawaewae’ meaning ‘a place to stand’ saw Tipene again reaching a finalist spot for the 2021 APRA Silver Scroll Award.  

Tipene is an artist who is still firmly inspired by his community and his surroundings. Currently based in Whitianga, Tipene is not only busy creating kaupapa-driven music, but also working full time as a social worker / youth mentor. 'We No Muck Around' is one of many projects on the go, with more projects on the cards for 2023.
