Nathan Haines is one of New Zealand's most influential jazz and electronic artists. The 2024 album Notes saw critical acclaim and widespread support, with singles gracing playlists worldwide. The upcoming Deluxe release of Notes includes a collection of instrumentals, remixes, edits, and live performances from his sold-out Powerstation show. The first single is a new edit of ‘Love You More’, a soulful track created in memory of his late friend and collaborator Phil Asher.
“This was my dedication to Phil after his passing. It was a shock to all of us when it happened. He was so alive and so ‘there’ as a person…it took me a few weeks to really grasp he wasn’t part of this world anymore. But actually he IS a part of this world and will always be via his music and the way he lived life."
Blending jazz harmony with the pulse of house music, the track is a nod to their signature sound. Created in the weeks following Phil’s sudden passing, ‘Love You More’ is built upon Asher’s drum groove, with Nathan adding synth and his trademark soprano saxophone melodies. The heartfelt sax solo captured the deep connection the two artists shared and was recorded in a single raw take.
“I remember finishing the take, coming back into myself, and breaking down,” says Nathan. “This is realness for me, put into music.”
Featuring a dynamic blend of live instrumentation and electronic elements, Notes (Deluxe Version) represents Haines’ lifelong commitment to pushing musical boundaries.
