Anna Coddington returns with two brand new tracks taken from Aotearoa’s latest comedy series Kid Sister. The tracks, ‘Oh Boi’ and ‘Golden Light’, were written specifically for the series, and showcase Coddington’s diverse musical background, combining jangly indie-guitars with an overarching lo-fi surf-rock sound.

Premiering this past May, TVNZ’s brand new series Kid Sister follows a character named Lulu, a young Kiwi woman in her prime but in the Jewish world she is careening towards ‘Spinster’. Set in Auckland, Kid Sister is a personal comedy about the joys and troubles that arise when old-world meets new. The series has been warmly received in New Zealand, being called “the kind of personal, personality-driven television we ought to be making more of” (The Spinoff).

Coddington handled the musical composition and music supervision for Kid Sister, following on from her work on the acclaimed series Head High. Recorded alongside frequent collaborator Jol Mulholland (Troy Kingi, Neil Finn, Anika Moa), these two tracks appear throughout the five-part series, revealing previously untapped corners of Coddington’s musical skillset.

The release arrives shortly after Coddington’s naming as a finalist for the 2022 APRA Silver Scroll. The nominated-track ‘Aho/Beams’ appears on the recently released Mana Wā-Hine, an EP featuring a collection of old and new waiata. The two singles from Kid Sister truly encapsulate Coddington’s ability to work across genres whilst maintaining her highly regarded songwriting skills. 2022 will see Coddington continue to work on new material, with a new project in the pipeline.
