Release Notes
Debut album out 23 January, 2026
Loop Recordings Aotearoa presents Dub Till Dawn, the debut full-length album from Sydney-based duo Sunset Tsunami. Rooted in dub, downbeat, and hip-hop-influenced production, the album reflects a late-night studio approach focused on rhythm, space, and atmosphere.
Built around MPC-driven beats, live bass and guitar, and restrained use of analogue processing, Dub Till Dawn balances traditional dub techniques with modern electronic production. Deep basslines, relaxed tempos, and subtle melodic elements shape the record, which is sprinkled with both vocal samples (‘Dub Till Dawn’, ‘Mr Midnight’, ‘Wildfire’) and vocal lead features (“Trigger Warning” featuring Israel Starr, and the Sunset Tsunami’s remix of Corrella’s “Skeletons”).
Drawing from classic dub foundations and the cinematic, groove-led lineage of contemporaries such as Thievery Corporation and Nightmares On Wax, the album is sequenced as a continuous listen. Tracks drift between reflective mid-tempo passages and heavier bass-driven moments, creating a cohesive late-night flow designed for immersive headphone listening as well as sound system play.
Reflecting on the process of creating the album, Sunset Tsunami say: “Dub Till Dawn is about staying in the moment and letting the tracks develop naturally. We wanted the music to feel loose but still grounded, with enough weight to work on a system.”
Dub Till Dawn introduces Sunset Tsunami in a focused, rhythm-driven dub context. While this release centres on dub and downtempo production, the duo are continuing to develop material that incorporates neo-soul and house influences in future projects.
