Laughton Kora is one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most distinctive and versatile creative voices - a celebrated musician, songwriter, producer, actor and director whose career spans music, film and theatre. As a founding member of genre-defining band Kora, alongside brothers Brad, Stu and Francis, Laughton helped shape a uniquely New Zealand sound that fused funk, rock, reggae, electronic and roots influences, earning acclaim both locally and internationally.
A gifted writer and performer with an unmistakable voice, Laughton has spent more than two decades at the forefront of New Zealand music. Beyond Kora, his collaborations include Fly My Pretties, Heavy Metal Ninjas, Sunshine Soundsystem and numerous songwriting and production projects across the industry. His latest venture, the galactic funk/rock collective Black Comet, continues to showcase his evolving artistry and fearless creative direction.
Laughton’s career has taken him to major festivals and stages around the world, including WOMAD UK, Australia and New Zealand, Big Day Out, Sydney Festival and extensive touring throughout Australia, the United States, Asia and Europe. Alongside music, he has built a respected acting career, starring in TVNZ’s Coverband and delivering a critically acclaimed performance as Judas in Auckland Theatre Company’s Jesus Christ Superstar.
With a deep commitment to storytelling and creative expression, Laughton continues to push boundaries as both a songwriter and multidisciplinary artist.
